ECV national seminar on Tuesday 10.3.2015

ECV inauguration

The inauguration event of the ECV was held in Aalto University, Espoo, on 5 September 2012.

ECV is one of the projects launched under the Electric Vehicle Systems (EVE) programme of Tekes – the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation. ECV focuses on electric commercial vehicles, electric public transport and supporting domestic research, development and business in the field of electric commercial vehicles (components, vehicles, mobile working machinery).

ECV organised an official kick-off event that introduced the contents of ECV and the parties involved in the project. At the same time, the event afforded an excellent opportunity to network with other actors in the industry. The event was opened by Executive Director Martti Äijälä of Tekes and Permanent Secretary Harri Pursiainen from the Ministry of Transport and Communications. Of the companies participating in ECV, Veolia Transdev, Rocla and ABB took the floor.

The following subjects were on display or available to drive:

  • Two electric buses (Veolia),
  • An electric bus prototype built from Finnish components (eBUS) by Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences,
  • VTT's laboratories and test platforms (eSTORAGE and eBUS) related to electric mobility (including battery testing),
  • The (plug-in) hybrid-electric working machine platform of the future and its components (Tubridi), presented by Aalto University,
  • Rocla is developing an electric forklift (eFORKLIFT) that uses new battery technology (lithium ion batteries),
  • The electric motor sled project (eSLED) coordinated by Rovaniemi University of Applied Sciences
  • The electric vehicle charging point and solar electricity plant realised by the City of Espoo and Fortum
  • Further plans for ECV, including high-powered charging technology
